What it does

Activated alumina — high-surface-area Al₂O₃ used as a desiccant in compressed-air systems, as a defluoridation adsorbent in drinking water, and as a Claus-process catalyst support. Distinct product from fused / calcined alumina.

Typical applications

  • Compressed-air dryers (heatless and heat-regenerative)
  • Fluoride removal from drinking water
  • Catalyst support (Claus-process sulphur recovery)
  • Hydrogen peroxide stabilisation

Industry-typical published bands. Producer-specific values on the COA issued per shipment.

Handling & packaging

  • Hygroscopic · keep sealed
  • Shelf life 24 months in original packaging
  • Not classified as hazardous for transport

Documents on file per shipment

Per-lot COA with adsorption capacity, crush strength, surface areaSDS in EU CLP formatHS 2818 20 00 classification confirmed by broker (distinct from 2818 10 00 fused alumina, which carries anti-dumping duties)

Serica execution notes

  • Customs classification confirmed in writing before shipment — activated alumina (HS 2818 20 00) must never be coded against fused-alumina scope, which currently carries EU anti-dumping duties.
  • Crush strength explicitly tested — the value that determines bed lifetime in a compressed-air dryer.
  • DDP to gate.
