What it does
Methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) — a monofunctional alkyl silane that hydrolyses to a hydrophobic methyl-silsesquioxane network on mineral surfaces. The reference grade for rendering silica, glass, mineral fillers, concrete and natural stone water-repellent without forming a continuous film.
Typical applications
- Hydrophobic surface treatment of precipitated and fumed silica
- Mineral filler modification (calcium carbonate, talc, kaolin) for plastics and rubber
- Façade, concrete and natural-stone water-repellent impregnation
- Co-binder in silicate paints and mineral coatings
- Crosslinker in moisture-cure silicone systems
